“This Thing” earned her nickname for telling a joke about a talkative school child who was known as “This Thing”. She prefers to use her nickname because, like so many Ghanaians living with HIV, she is sensitive about stigma and discrimination."This Thing" learned she was HIV positive in 2000 and began antiretroviral treatment in 2005.“This Thing” refuses to let HIV hold her back and says she plans to live to 100 – long enough to see all her grandchildren grow up.
