Meet Joyce and Delali

From Ghana

  • Joyce is a beautiful and vibrant mother of two healthy children, Mawenia and Delali, who were both born HIV-free.  “Before I start my story,” Joyce says, “people don’t believe I have HIV.”  Joyce’s story is common in Ghana.  Joyce discovered she was HIV positive while pregnant with her first child, Mawenia.  At Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, funded by (RED)-financed Global Fund grants, she was educated about the antiretroviral (ARV) treatment that could keep her healthy and, along with other precautions, prevent the transmission of the virus

  • to her child. Today, thanks to Joyce's role as a public HIV/AIDS Ambassador for the Heart to Heart organization, she is able to spread awareness of HIV prevention and treatment, as well as combat stigma through changing public perception of what it means to be HIV-positive.
