Do Something Good Every Day
"(RED) is coming to a corner near you thanks to Starbucks. I'm very excited to be able to say that," said Bono, co-founder of (RED). "The business of Starbucks with roots in Africa and branches all over the world is an ideal fit for (RED). It's pretty mind-blowing to think that millions of people can buy (RED) going about their daily lives and in doing so raise millions of dollars to fight AIDS in Africa. That's not a bad hit from your caffeine." Starbucks is giving coffee lovers a way to do good every day. Take the (STARBUCKS) RED Card. Starbucks will contribute 5 cents from every purchase made with the card at participating U.S. and Canada stores, and 5p/5 cents from every purchase made with the card at participating U.K. and Ireland stores, to the Global Fund* to help save lives in Africa, an important coffee growing region for Starbucks.
Starbucks partnership with (PRODUCT) RED reinforces the company’s ongoing commitment to the people and communities that grow its coffee. This is a key component of Starbucks™ Shared Planet™, the company’s approach to global responsibility, which includes ethical sourcing, environmental impact and community investment. Starbucks currently buys coffee from ten African countries including Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. On Monday, June 29, Starbucks continued to build on the investments they have made in East Africa over the past five years with the grand opening of the Starbucks Farmer Support Center in Kigali, Rwanda– a (RED) grant country.
